Teaching Artist Job Description

The teaching artist is responsible for developing and executing lesson plans and activities that meet the objectives of our trademark Voice2Youth™ poetry and literacy program which is designed to strengthen students’ creative thinking, reading, writing, and public speaking skills. Sessions are held onsite at Fort Worth area school and community center campuses. Sessions are held between 3:30 and 6:00 p.m. for 45 to 90 minutes.

Pay Range: This position pays $20 to $30 per session based on an applicant’s educational level and experience teaching K-12 students.

Education and General Requirements:

  • Must be 21 years of age.
  • Possess two years of college in education or theatre or experience teaching K-12 students.
  • Know poetic techniques like rhyme, rhythm, simile, alliteration, and metaphor.
  • Possess strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Must have computer and technology skills, e.g., accessing email and using virtual platforms and presentation software like PowerPoint or Google slides.
  • Must be able to pass a background check or drug test at any time.
  • Must have reliable transportation and liability insurance relevant to carrying out duties.
  • Special consideration will be given to teachers, teacher aides, retired teachers, graduate students, and bilingual applicants.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Implement instructional activities where students actively engage in meaningful learning experiences and accommodate individual student differences.
  • Plan daily activities and lessons that meet the Voice2Youth curriculum and local, state, and federal guidelines.
  • Provide effective and efficient record-keeping, including student attendance, activity reports, and lesson plans.
  • Communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with students, parents, TYDF staff, and other professionals.
  • Assess student achievement and provide feedback for improvement.
  • Model professional and ethical standards when dealing with students, parents, peers, and the community.
  • Participate in training and staff development.
