Community Performances

Children’s Voices Express Thanks to Their Community

Thanks A MillionOur students are taught that ‘thanks a million’ is an idiom, a figurative phrase that expresses a lot of thanks.  After teaching this lesson and as a part of community performances, we challenge them to join us in writing one million words of thanks.  A heartfelt “thank-you” often becomes a treasured keepsake because it uplifts and reminds us that we are appreciated.

Recently, at one of our Thanks a Million fund raisers, a ten year old girl touched everyone’s heart as she read a poem she wrote about her aunt who wore a pacemaker. In her poem she called the pacemaker a heart-breaker because she said it was the only thing standing between her aunt and life. Although the little girl felt her aunt’s illness was unfair, she still found a way to be thankful. Through her poetry she expressed her gratitude for having her aunt in her life.

You can help us spread the attitude of gratitude by writing notes, letters, cards and poems that include the phrase “Thanks a Million!” Reflect on ways that you’ve been helped – was it good advice, a kind listening ear or an opportunity to grow?
